Monday to Friday we have several activities were we give the children of Hope for Guatemala the opportunity to do something positive, that may change their lives. To lear more on How we develop the programs, click on each program to learn more about it, and how you can share Hope and life to this children.
Nutritional
Monday to Friday each child receives a nutritious, hot lunch. Each meal consists largely of vegetables and fruits donated to Hope for Guatemala by generous, Guatemalan vendors at the CENMA wholesale market. Each week we also serve a meal that includes meat, beef or chicken, that is donated or purchased to enhance the variety and nutritional content of the children’s diet.
Market Day
Every Tuesday, Hope for Guatemala provides its families with a bag of fresh vegetables and fruits weighing anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds. Many families count
with the blessing of “market day” in order to feed their families.
Game Day
Every Friday is now Game Day at Hope for Guatemala. Children are invited to stay and play during their group’s lunch and class time. The teenagers often spend the rest of the afternoon with us and it seems there’s less homework that gets done on Friday now!
Bible and Values Education
Monday through Thursday, before lunch, each group is given a 20 to 30 minute values and Bible education instruction. We are currently in a series where we learn about important Biblical characters through reading their story. We learn from their actions and mistakes and how we can apply those lessons to our ow lives everyday in Zone 18. The kids are expected to learn a corresponding verse and book of the Bible for the character.
Before and After School Program
Monday through Friday, children are offered the opportunity to get help with difficult school subjects and do their homework. Thanks to sponsorship, we now have a supply closet stocked with materials for kids to get their assignments and projects done. Computers and the internet are available for legitimate needs as well. Beto and other volunteers are also available to help our kids have success in school with instruction and tutoring.
Soccer
Hope currently has 3 teams in the local Futeca tournament. Two of the teams are boys 14 and under while the other team is for our young ladies. Each player must try out for the team and show good character, behavior, soccer skill, and adequate grades in school. Each team practices once or twice a week and plays once a week. This is a great outlet for our kids as sports are not offered in public school and team play teaches many great lessons.
Excursions and Extracurricular Activities
As time, money, and opportunity allows, children are taken on extracurricular excursions to the National Ballet, National Symphony, movies, park, concerts bowling, circus, swimming, zoo, church services, and workshops
