Christmas Eve is the big day to celebrate in Guatemala. Traditionally, families gather together, eat tamales, drink punch, exchange gifts, set off fireworks and have a great time.
Since Hope's children and their families do not have the resources for this kind of party, we threw one for them. Jose, the staff, and 2 elderly volunteers made 350 tamales and punch to give our children on Christmas Eve.
Rolando and Jonathan, friends of Hope, also helped procure gifts and food to take home for every child. Beto and Fausto provided worship and entertainment. A great time was had by all. A special thank you to Marie Carder for helping to provide for this Christmas event.

Greetings!
This is our first update of the New Year and things are off to a great start. Our children were thrilled to be back after a short break and we've completed the first wave of registration for 2010. We have nearly 200 children registered and attending regularly and we hope to make room for even more.
We believe that this is going to be a year of expansion at Hope for Guatemala and our goal is to reach even more of the hurt, broken, and suffering. All of us at Hope are so grateful for your prayers and support. Our work here is truly a team effort.

Vacation Bible School 2009
 This year VBS at Hope was awesome. Each room of the ministry was decorated by our youth to look like a scene out of the Bible. The children learned about Moses, Jonah, David, and other Biblical heroes. We love this time of year because we are able to focus our energy on sharing the Word of God to our kids in a fun and accessible way.

Going Bananas!
 Esperanza received a great blessing from Dole this December in the form of an entire container of export quality bananas. We were able to bless every family in the ministry with a box of bananas for Christmas. In addition local ministries and churches in Zone 18 received bananas for their congregants and to bless those in need. It was awesome to be able to take what was given to us and bless others. Youth Rewarded with a Trip to Panajachel
One of the great activities we did during December was a trip to Panajachel for some of our youth. As a reward for their grades, behavior, attitude, example, and service, Jose took 8 of our young people on an excursion to picturesque Panajachel. This was the first time for each of the youth in Pana. It was also their first experience staying in a hotel and showering with hot water. All in all it was an amazing time.
250 Kids taken to Motorcycle Show
In December we were also able to bless our kids and a local church and ministry with a trip to Escuintla for a motorcycle show. Guatemalan motorcycle aficionados sponsored the event. The children traveled in tour buses, were given a gift and each received a Happy Meal (first time for nearly all of them). We love to show our kids that God loves them to have and ENJOY their lives.
